ABOUT MY SHOP When entrusted to me, your clock will be repaired properly, and will not be given a makeshift repair or 'tinkered with'. Clocks are repaired using brand new, factory-genuine parts, and not with 'used' or old parts 'from a junk box'. In fact, I don't own a 'junk box' at all (many clock repairers do own one, and use this 'junk' to repair peoples' clocks), and I keep in stock and on-hand a large assortment of brand new factory genuine parts for a large variety of modern clocks that have been manufactured since 1960. In fact I have the most extensive inventory of new clock parts and complete replacement clock mechanisms in the Boston area. These parts are in-stock, on-hand, and are ready for use in your clock repair. All clocks that I service are bench-tested, timed, and adjusted as required, before being returned to you 'good-as-new' with my two-year performance guarantee. Please browse my web site to learn more about me, my shop, and the services I can provide. If you have any questions, or if what you're looking for is not here, please call, fax, or e-mail me, and I'd be happy to answer your inquiry. Please see my Contact Page for phone numbers and email address. CAN I REPAIR YOUR CLOCK? This is a general list. How The Clock Movement Wears:
These 31 Clock Movements are made up of 2 brass plates with 2 springs and 12 gears in-between them. Each gear shaft has two pivots, one at each end, that ride in a hole in each of the plates. As the movement runs, the pressure from the spring turns the first gear in one direction, that gear turns the next gear in the opposite direction, and so on. Whichever direction the pressure presses the gear to run, the pivot holes in the plates will wear in that direction. The more the holes wear, the more the gears drag as they move out of alignment, and the more power the movement needs to continue running. Eventually the movement wears to the point that the spring cannot supply enough power to run the clock. At this point the movement will need to be rebuilt.
How The Clock Movement Is Rebuilt:
First the clock movement is completely disassembled and ran through the cleaner. Next, all the worn pivot holes are realigned and then drilled out to the proper size of the bushing it is to receive. The bushings are then pressed into the holes and touched up with a bushing reamer, as needed, to provide adequate clearance for the pivots. (I use only high quality KWM bronze bushings) The old springs are removed and new springs are installed. The movement is then oiled, reassembled, and thoroughly tested.
